When women and girls experience endometriosis; a strange condition that causes both physical and psychological suffering and a severe life stressor. It is not uncommon for their lives to unravel. As a sufferer, well aware of its grave effects, my great passion was to put in place a facility to treat and rehabilitate women and girls living with endometriosis. I co-founded Endometriosis Care Centre Uganda and through it, I help my clients to manage their condition, advance in life, find healthy perceptions of themselves and fully participate in society.
I am aware that several approaches are needed to achieve this, and so collaborative alliances have been established with other organisations and institutions with similar goals and objectives.
My educational background includes a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University- Uganda and a diploma in legal practice from the Law Development Centre Kampala-Uganda. I am an enrolled advocate of the High Court and have worked with a non-for profit organisation serving survivors of torture in position of a Legal Officer from November 2015 to November 2021 and as a Legal Coordinator.
Kenneth D. BAGONZA is a Ugandan doctor with specialist training in Emergency Medicine. He has also done forensic medical work with a non-profit organization serving victims of torture. He has a passion for serving the underserved and those whose needs are on the fringes of priority.
Over the years, he has come across and interacted with women and girls with endometriosis. Some were his patients, and others his work and social colleagues. The one thing they had in common was their unmet need for care. This was largely due to a poorly understood or completely misunderstood clinical presentation and ignorance on the part of health workers.
The opportunity to holistically serve this group of people was too great to pass up, and when he was approached by Ms. Juliet Anango with the idea to set up a one-stop rehabilitation center for those suffering from endometriosis and its complications, he grabbed it with both hands.
His hope is that this service will go a long way in comforting and assisting onto their feet those who are afflicted by endometriosis
